POLICIES and STANDARDS RELATED TO TROOP ACTIVITIES
Girl Scouts, Patriots' Trail Council Policies and Standards
The Board of Directors of Patriots' Trail has established the following policies and standards for this council.
Patriots' Trail Policies
- GSUSA Policies: The policies of Girl Scouts of the United States of America must be followed (see Blue Book of Basic Documents) as well as federal, state and local laws.
- Alcohol Policy: The consumption of alcohol is not permitted while supervising or transporting Girl Scouts. Supervision is defined as all adults participating in or going on a program, event, activity, overnight or extended trip for the entire length thereof.
- Smoking Policy: Patriots’ Trail Girl Scout Council is a non-smoking environment in and at all Girl Scout activities and sites, including transportation to and from such sites and/or activities.
Patriots' Trail Standards
- GSUSA Standards: Safety-Wise principles and standards for all activities and the guidelines in Planning Trips with Girl Scouts (now included in Safety-Wise) should be followed.
- Troop Camping
- At least one certified adult troop camper should accompany the troop on all overnight camping activities.
- A second adult certified as CPR/First Aider should accompany the troop on all overnight camping activities.
- Troop Program
- Members age eighteen and older are considered adults and may serve in the leader capacity. A member over the age of sixteen may serve as an assistant leader.
- There should be signed parental consent for membership and for troop activities away from the regular meeting place.
- Permission for overnights should be obtained from the parent or guardian.
- Troops that wish to raise funds must plan to participate in the council’s cookie sale. Beyond that, the troop may hold two additional fund raisers with clearance at the Service Unit level. Any further fund raising events must be approved by the Director of Membership Services (see Council 'Guidelines for Money Earning Activities').
- All bus contracts must be signed by the Chief Operating Officer to ensure that appropriate coverage and permits are valid.
