Outstanding Leader Award Outstanding Volunteer Award

Adult Recognition

Awards Requiring Approval by the Service Team

For each of the two awards described below, the local service team reviews the information, approves or denies the nomination, and notifies the nominating group or individual. Any Girl Scout group may make an application for an individual to receive these awards. If, after reading the description, you feel you have a worthy candidate, see How to Apply.

Outstanding Leader Award

The Outstanding Leader Award recognizes troop/group leaders, assistant troop/group leaders, or group coordinators whose performance in working with girls is so outstanding that it merits recognition by the Service Unit.

Criteria for Selection:

  • Candidate is a registered Girl Scout adult volunteer or staff member.
  • The candidate has completed appropriate training, or demonstrated competence in girl-adult partnership, communication, membership development, pluralism and program delivery.
  • The candidate's work with girls has exceeded expectations for the position as outlined in the job description agreement.

Outstanding Volunteer Award

The Outstanding Volunteer Award recognizes an adult volunteer in a position other than leader or in addition to leader whose service benefits a service unit in a way that is beyond the expectations for the position.

Criteria for Selection:

  • Candidate is a registered Girl Scout adult volunteer or staff member.
  • The candidate has completed appropriate training, or demonstrated competence for the job, or both.
  • The candidate has performed at a level that exceeds the expectations of the position as outlined in the job description agreement.

How to Apply:

Any Girl Scout group may make an application for an individual to receive this award.

Complete the nomination form (Word download) and letters of endorsement (Word download) for Service Unit Awards and attach both to the application.

Please type, use your computer or print in black ink.

Send in one envelope to your service team or local field office. Check with your Service Team for deadline. It is suggested that the proposed nominee not be informed of her/his nomination.

It will be the responsibility of the panel to determine where the proposed award will be presented. Action by the Service Team will be communicated to the sponsoring group.
